A collaboration of proud craftsmanship: John Smedley’s one-off piece in natural indigo dye by ŌME

Founded in 1784, John Smedley has crafted fine-gauge knitwear for over 240 years and holds the Royal Warrant. This classic giant has collaborated with ŌME, the fashion label by Kosoen—an indigo dyeing workshop in Tokyo’s Ome district with a history dating back to the Taisho era—to release a limited edition of one-off pieces featuring authentic indigo dyeing at a pop-up in Ginza Mitsukoshi!

This series, born from the union of supreme knitwear and Japanese traditional craftsmanship across the seas, features truly one-of-a-kind gradations that are like art pieces! Based on the ancient Edo-period technique ‘natural indigo ash fermentation dyeing’, it uses natural indigo from Tokushima, employing no chemicals whatsoever. Through painstaking fermentation, sparing neither time nor effort, it achieves a rich, deep dye. Furthermore, a colour order service is available at the ongoing venue. Only one week left – still time to visit!!
