A series of traditional Japanese furniture made from reclaimed cedar timber, combining craftsmanship and sustainability

Okawa City, in the Chikugo region of Fukuoka Prefecture, is a major centre for domestic furniture production. Seki Furniture, headquartered there, has released a new series of traditional Japanese furniture made from reclaimed cedar timber as part of its ‘CRUSH CRASH PROJECT’ interior collection, designed by the company’s in-house design team!　Traditionally, reclaimed cedar timber would have been disposed of as industrial waste after being used on construction and civil engineering sites. The company has collected this timber, cleaned and processed it, and—whilst maximising the distinctive character of the reclaimed wood—combined it with glass to create cabinets and display cases. The style draws inspiration from Japanese furniture of the Meiji and Taishō periods, before the widespread adoption of chairs and tables, featuring a refined, hybrid Japanese-Western silhouette that is neither overly ornate nor flashy. The interior design harmonises with contemporary living spaces whilst retaining a timeless, classic aesthetic. The collection is now available at the company’s flagship store, ‘CRASH GATE’ , the Seki Furniture showroom, authorised retailers nationwide and the official online store.
