At the end of 2021, PRADA’s iconic virgin nylon was entirely replaced by ‘Re-Nylon’, which utilises the recycled nylon fibre ‘ECONYL®’. Incidentally, “ECONYL®” is an innovative upcycled material developed by the Italian yarn manufacturer Aquafil, using nylon waste as raw material. Through chemical recycling, it can be regenerated repeatedly to the same quality as new without using any petroleum whatsoever. PRADA has pursued the circularity of “Re-Nylon” and expanded it to include the natural fibres of wool and cashmere.

Whilst ‘Re-Nylon’ is made from pre- and post-consumer nylon waste, ‘Re-Cashmere’ and ‘Re-Wool’ involve the collection and sorting of cutting scraps, spinning residues and surplus materials generated during the manufacturing process, transforming them into high-quality recycled raw materials. The yarns spun in this way have obtained two certifications established by Textile Exchange, an international NGO (non-profit organisation) based in the United States: the GRS (Global Recycled Standard) and the RWS (Responsible Wool Standard). The entire ‘Re-Cashmere’ and ‘Re-Wool’ collections embody the ideal vision of sustainability rooted in the PRADA Group’s initiatives to reduce its environmental impact.
