As an official event of the ‘TOKYO CREATIVE SALON’ (https://tokyo-creativesalon.com/) – which connects the past memories and archives of fashion, architecture, music, design, art, and advertising to the future through new creation – the world’s first vintage fashion week, focusing on vintage apparel, has been confirmed. The event runs for three days from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th March at the Shinjuku Sumitomo Building Triangle Plaza in Nishi-Shinjuku, Tokyo. It will create a space where everyone from fashion professionals to the general public can experience the appeal and value of vintage fashion. The key perspective of ‘Tokyo Vintage Fashion Week’ is content categorising ‘Vintage’ into three distinct sections.
1.Everyday Vintage
REGULAR Vintage
Vintage clothing commonly found in regular vintage shops, enjoyed for everyday wear. Centred on casual wear from the 1990s to 2000s, this category forms the foundation supporting fashion diversity and self-expression.
2.Historical Value
PREMIUM Vintage
Vintage clothing of high rarity and historical value. Masterpieces such as Levi’s®, Lee, and Wrangler from around the period spanning the Second World War to the 1960s, commanding prices in the hundreds of thousands of yen.
3. Items with Potential for Future Cultural Value
FUTURE Vintage
An initiative proposing items that transcend fleeting trends or temporary popularity, possessing the potential for enduring value in the future. Items with the potential to become ‘future vintage’, selected based on brand heritage, design timelessness, and material quality.
Organising the ‘Regular Vintage Fashion Show’ and ‘Future Vintage Fashion Show’ – a vintage market gathering approximately 100 stores and a fashion show expressing the era and stories embodied in vintage clothing as style. Japan’s unique vintage culture, gaining international attention in recent years, is being broadcast to the world from Tokyo.
